OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A forum was held in Ogden Monday for the public to discuss a book that was pulled from elementary school library shelves.

The book, In Our Mothers’ House, by author Patricia Polacco, is a story about a lesbian couple raising children. 25 parents signed a petition to have the book removed and the Davis School District agreed to place it behind the counter—only to be checked out with parent permission.

OUTreach Resource Center, a center for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender and allied youth held a community forum at the Pleasant Valley Library to discuss the district’s decision.

Members of the public asked questions to an expert panel that included same-sex parents and their children, an Ogden School District teacher, a child psychologist and an ACLU attorney.

The ACLU is suing the district arguing the banning violates First Amendment rights.

My granddaughter's preschool has a photo on the wall of two dads with a child. This is the world we live in. Celebrate children having loving parents! Go, Abby!
