Reagan has excessively dry heels that crack open and will bleed when she walks on them.  Good Things Utah viewers from all over the state have written us to share their dry heel remedies for Reagan to try.  Now we share them with you!

From Andrea Graf:

I have a great recipe to fix Reagan's feet that feels good and costs pennies to make but costs $10 - $30 if you bought it in the store.  It's a sugar scrub (salt would be too harsh and painful for her cracked heels) made with sugar, oil, and a little beeswax.  For Reagan I would make up a little more complicated concoction because she needs a little more TLC but even the basic recipe will work wonders.

Sugar Scrub Recipe

Melt 2 ounces grated beeswax with 6 - 8 ounces oil (any organic oil will do, just pick one you like), and let cool for about three minutes. Mix in sugar (it should not dissolve into the mixture) until it is a little thinner consistency than you want it to be when finished; it will firm up as it cools.

When you are ready to use the scrub just take out about a quarter size dollop with your fingers and rub into your feet until all the sugar has fallen off.  Put on a pair of socks and let your feet take it easy for a little while.

You can use this scrub for  your hands, legs, and anywhere else you have really dry skin, except your face and neck.  You can even use sugar on your scalp for an invigorating scalp massage.  Just mix it in with your shampoo and put it directly on your scalp.  Massage and rinse when you're done.  It feels GREAT!

From Aimee Kartchner:

I was watching the show today when someone suggested super glue for your cracked heels.  I wanted to warn you about what happened to me.  Last summer I had a baby and got my first cracked heel ever.  I decided to try super glue because my mom has been using it on her heels for years.  About 24 hours after I tried it, my heel became very red and sore to the point where it hurt to walk on it.  I couldn't even let my heel rest on my bed while sleeping because it was too painful.  The pain kept me awake all night, even though I was EXHAUSTED from a five week-old baby.  When I got out of bed in the morning, I had a red line on my skin going from my heel all the way up my leg.  It was called cellulitis, caused from a staph infection.  To make a long story short, I had to go to the doctor where they cut my heel open, dug out all the puss and crap with a needle (very painful) and then irrigated it. I also got a shot of Rocephin and was put on Keflex for a week.  I had to soak my foot in hydrogen peroxide and water twice a day for a week and keep it covered with ointment and gauze.  It eventually healed and the crack went away about a month later, but it definitely put a damper on my life with a newborn.

Good luck trying all the lotions and potions.

From Millie:

Hey there, was watching you gals this morning and had to laugh about your heels.  I have had problems with my feet for a long time now and tried everything I could find under the sun called lotion and nothing worked, even tried to sleep with socks on and would wake up with them in the bed.  So the other weekend I was at Wal-Mart and found this Dr. Scholl's for Her Exfoliating Stone File.  It is contoured for the heels.  You use it on clean dry feet.  Just thought you might like to try one.  Good luck with your HEELS.

Just a tip that I heard about those cracked, bleeding heels like one of the hosts mentioned.  That is usually a form of athlete's foot and requires a cream with a fungicide in it to really heal, like Tinactin.  If you use that regularly morning and night for a couple of weeks, you'd see a big improvement.  The same thing happens to me every summer.  And it doesn't hurt to treat yourself to a pedicure!

Hi Reagan:

Happy Thursday to you!

I was able to catch the first few minutes of the show today and wanted to pass on some foot cream that worked for my husband.  His feet are usually terribly dry during the summer, so I was on the lookout for some heavy duty foot cream.  I happened to be shopping at Linens and Things in Kimball Junction and came across a product called Miracle Foot Repair Cream.  I know, weird that I picked it up at this particular store, but it WORKS!  You could tell after the first application that it was working.  Now, two weeks later, his feet look so much better!  Very reasonably priced.   I paid around $10.  Money well spent!

From Stacy Lockhart:

On your show last Thursday, the girls were teasing Reagan about her cracked heels.  Believe me, I know it can really hurt!  Good news.  AFter all these years, I just got a tip that you could put Vicks VapoRub on your heels at night and then wear socks to bed.  Who knew??  I've tried Vaseline with socks and every other foot cream, but this really seems to work.  Good luck!

From Addy Bedingfield:

You gals are great to watch.  I love the show. I was in your studio audience two weeks ago, truly enjoyed myself.

I was watching the show two mornings ago.  I heard them tease you (shame on them!) about your dry heels.  While pregnant, my heels were dry and cracked.  I went to the beauty supply store and bought a product called "callus eliminator" by Be Natural.  Just follow the easy instructions on the back.  You will be days away from baby soft feet.  I'm proof!!!  It works.  It completely got rid of the dry callus' and cracks.  I hope you enjoy this tip.

From Treena:

Well, I guess you aren't the only with Grand Canyon feet.  I'm 30 now and have messed with the cracked feet for years now.  I've actually found two really good things to help them.  From Bath and Body Works I really like the SHEA IT ISN'T SO foot cream with shea butter, works great.  So, I'm sure you know this trick with having horses and all but my mom who works for a vet turned me on to Utter Balm.  I thought she was absolutely nuts, but I love the stuff.  I found out I have diabetes last month and one of the big deals with being a diabetic is taking care of your feet, so I had to put my motherly duties aside for a few minutes a day to take care of myself.  I hope you find something that works for you.  It hurts!  Good luck and sorry for chatting your ear off!
