SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Firefighters are battling more brush fires tonight up and down the Wasatch Front as they brace for more hot, dry, and windy conditions this Father's Day weekend.
In Utah County, the Little Cove Fire is near containment, but firefighters are watching for new hot spots. It burned almost 200 acres near Redwood Road (SR 68) six miles south of Saratoga Springs.
In Tooele, crews are battling the Ophir Creek Fire which so far has burned over 12-hundred acres.That fire is burning near the Deseret Chemical Depot.
Six miles from the Ophir Creek Fire, 50 acres have burned in what is being called the Penny Creek Fire.
All three brushfires were human caused, according to firefighters. The Little Cove Fire was caused by exploding gun targets.
Earlier in the day, West Valley City Firefighters also doused a grass fire that was threatening homes just west of the Jordan River. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but homeowners believe it was possibly set by a homeless man seen wandering near the area.
The U.S Forest Service has posted several state-wide fire restrictions on all state and federal lands. They include no open fires, no fireworks, and no smoking except in designated areas.
Fire officials say the weekend weather could bring high winds, dry conditions, and possible lightning. They are asking everyone to be extra careful with outdoor plans over the Father's Day holiday.
