My comment stemmed from personal experience a few years ago when I was staying overnight in a warehouse owned by some friends. Around 2:30 a.m., I saw two men breaking into a warehouse right across the street, so I immediately called 911 and reported "a burglary in progress." The dispatcher had me stay on the phone while she summoned the police, and until after they had arrived and arrested them on site, all of which transpired within less than ten minutes. Once they were handcuffed and taken away, two officers walked towards the building where I was located. Only then did I turn on the lights in the office so they could see me inside and I let them in to give my account of what I had witnessed. One of the officers took the phone and concluded the call with the dispatcher himself, so it all ended well and in short order -- except for the burglars who were caught by complete surprise, not knowing I had been watching them since they first drove up to the front of that warehouse. I expect you and Tyler only acted naturally under the circumstances, but I appreciate you providing us more details. Perhaps others will be able to benefit in the future from reading of our respective experiences and act accordingly in the circumstances they might be faced with some day. Hi Dennis, I am the person who caught this kid and we did call the cops at 10:16 PM that night after it happened, the cops showed up at 4:00 PM the next day. Rather than the kid stealing our stuff and not getting caught I feel we did the best for us to get him out of our vehicle. Unfortunatly I feel like the police only showed up because of the reporter calling them again and asking questions since the reporter who came out was due at 5 and West Jordan officer showed at 4. I hopes help to clarify.

I wonder how long after the burglars had been alerted and ran off before it finally dawned on these folks to call the cops. But I'm sure the burglars appreciated the heads up by being yelled at out the window, rather than chance being caught in the act by the cops had they only been called in a timely manner by someone's keen use of a surveillance camera. Burglars in handcuffs are worth more than the ones who get away and are merely caught on camera as they ran off after being asked what they were doing. I guess they didn't know the answer so they just took off. Surely I can't be the only one who had those same thoughts.
