SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - According to Yahoo Sports, Deron Williams has told USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo of his decision to not play in the FIBA world championships in Turkey this summer. Williams reportedly declined because of a family matter. If one thing is for sure it's the fact Williams wasn't too excited about the World Championships when he was asked about it at his charity golf tournament on Saturday.
“It’s just a long commitment this summer,” Williams said. “Right when you’re getting back from that, you’ve got to jump right into the season and that’s tough. Especially with the guys we lost, I think I’m going to have to do a lot more this season.”
Utah's all-star guard spent two summers playing for USA Basketball in 2007 and 2008. Unfortunately for Team USA it's looking more and more likely that it will be without a single player from the 2008 Olympic roster.
