There’s new concern about something nearly every woman does every day. Doctors now say chemicals in make-up, hairspray and even packaged foods could stop a woman's period two years early.
Every woman has a daily beauty ritual.
"Usually I just wear like foundation and mascara and like powder," said Madison Buchanan.
"I have pretty much a full routine I wear like all the powder and blush and bronzer, eye shadow mascara eye liner," said Lexi Tulin.
But, new research shows if you use any of those products, or eat pre-packaged foods, you could end up reaching menopause early.
"Wow, I didn't know that, that makes me think twice about what I’m eating," said Keisha Moore.
Doctors say a chemical called phthalates is found in most make up, many hair products, and plastics. Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri ran tests on 5,700 women; those who had the highest amount of the chemical in their systems went through menopause an average of 2 years before the other ladies. The study also showed the chemical could increase the risk of cancer and diabetes.
Other doctors say there’s no need to get worried about this just yet, the research is still very preliminary. However, if you want to be extra safe, they say stay away from pre-packaged foods.
