SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - It costs two hundred thousand dollars and it was supposed to be released as early as Tuesday the 23rd, but now, a much talked about and controversial study on a Broadway style theater in Utah is being delayed.
Reportedly, the new draft of this theater study says there is a need for Broadway-style productions in Salt Lake City.
But then, it seems to spend a lot of the time arguing against building a new theater.
The study reportedly highlights several areas of concern, including:
1) That being a smaller city, Salt Lake might have some difficulty attracting Broadway hit shows.
2) That shows with controversial content might not come here.
While much of the theater debate has dealt with whether to put it in downtown Salt Lake or Sandy, ABC 4 News is being told that this two hundred thousand dollar study does not yet extensively address or resolve that key issue.
But what the study does seem to like is Kingsbury Hall at the University of Utah.
It suggests that with a new 20 to 25 million dollar parking garage, Kingsbury could become a premier theater venue.
And even though Salt Lake and Sandy seem determined to move ahead with plans for a Broadway style venue, it's interesting to note that this new theater study, reportedly, cautions Salt Lake County against spending public money on such a theater.
