WEST VALLEY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A gas war is driving down prices at the pump. They bottomed out Tuesday in West Valley at $ 2.69.

The two waring stations are stand on the southwest corner of 3100 South and Redwood Road.

The prices are dropping because Chevron opened up January 28 and the owner decided to drop the prices below his cost to attract new business. Manager Numair Khan the gas station is losing 20 cents a gallon with prices at $2.69.

"My boyfriend called and said, 'Oh you got to get over there. You won't believe the price.' And I couldn't believe the price when I got here. We haven't seen these in months and months," said Jane Landon.

The price at the Maverick and Chevron was 46 cents below the average for a gallon of regular in Salt Lake City.

Khan says Chevron is keeping prices artificially low for two more weeks to attract new business.

Yes, $2.699 is cheap compared to current prices. But its not near what the low price should be.
