SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Utah state senator Chris Buttars responded to ABC 4’s report on some controversial comments concerning homosexuals he made during an interview for a documentary.

Buttars talked with documentary maker and former ABC 4 reporter Reed Cowan.

During the interview, Buttars not only compares gays to radical Muslims, but also claims gays pose the greatest threat to America.

Some of Buttars' colleagues responded to the controversial politician's statements. Senator Scott McCoy is Utah's only openly gay state senator. On Wednesday, he commented, “Other colleagues of mine in the body have apologized on his behalf which i appreciate because they felt like they needed to do so.”

Buttars posted a response to ABC 4’s report on the state senate’s unofficial blog on Wednesday.

In the post, Buttars claims he was misled by Cowan, saying,

“Reed assured me that he would treat both sides of the issue fairly and that I would be treated fairly. He told me the interview would be public in about a year and I would be allowed to see his work and approve my part before he released it.

I took Reed at his word and am disappointed.”

Buttars went on to defend his stance on traditional marriage.

Reed Cowan responded to Buttars' claim later on Wedesday in a written response to ABC 4 saying:

"Senator Buttars claim that he was somehow misled is a lie. He knew the topic of our film and he knew there would be opposing voices. Additionally, Senator Buttars claim that he had promise to review our material is a fabrication. His response today is a shameless diversion tactic to the larger issue. The tape speaks for itself." Senator Buttars is right with his Comments about Gays Being a Great threat to this country. I support him for what he said and it is an outradge to try to Punish him for speaking his mind. To Censor or control any ellective for doing his Job is wrong, when he is Speaking An obviuos truth and representing members of the state who think the same. This includes those thru-out the world who believe the same. It is shameful sad Poison of Habbitual sexual addittion that is like drugs that only suits men and women whom are willing to evil to others being Cloak, like a wolf in sheep cloathing. In time the gays hope is to Insinstize us into Tolerance of this unnatural effections, Pervert us as it did Nod with regarde to soldem and Godmora. Senator Buttars did the right thing in saying what he knows is so. As to sparing the Gays feelings is nothing compare the damage they cause and feelings they hurt thru out time! HOW DARE YOU SUPPOSE THAT GOD INTENDED THIS SICK CRAP!

Kimberly, nobody told me that's what this fight was all about! I would've taken decisive action years ago if I knew this was an Armageddon, Star Wars, good vs evil battle for the universe! Do we get any powers? Can I use my special light saber and Jedi mind tricks in this climactic battle? Where and when is this going down so I can request time off work?

I support Chris Buttars and am thank-ful that he has always stayed true to the principles that he campaigned on. He has always stood firm that he supports family values and morals and has never wavered to please the crowd. He doesn't deviate from what he believes in inorder to be popular. I commend him for his honesty and itegrity. If only all our politicians would stand by what they say and stick by their campaign promises. We really are doing an injustice to our children if we let the gay community re-shape our society and call evil good and good evil.

I am sure that everyone including Mr. Buttars has been told by their mother, that if you can't say anything nice about someone else, don't say anything at all. For someone as him being a former bishop in the LDS Church to make the comments that he did is such hypocrisy. SHAME ON YOU Senator Buttars. Who are you to judge.

We all have the right to believe what we want. We have the right to voice those believes and vote accordingly that is what this country was founded on. Now days this only applies to the minority groups and other groups. If a person disagrees with any of these groups and lately the gay rights movement or even their way of life you are called a bigot. Again as US Citizens we are forced to tolerate the reverse discrimination that this promotes. Like the United Nigro College Fund, Black History Month, NAACP, Gay Pride Day, and more. Could you imagine what would happen if Caucasian in the United States had events and organizations like United White College Fund, White History Month, White Pride Day, and so on. Well we would all be called a racist or a bigot. What do you think would happen if the people voted against a gay rights bill? We have seen what happens. The gay rights movement terrorizes United States Citizens for what they believe, they file suites, and they terrorize the LDS Church because of its so called involvement. They post all money contributors that were against their cause on the internet encouraging domestic terrorism against these US Citizens who exorcized their rights to get involved in the political issues that face this country. They go as far as to black mail and to commit acts of extortion against the LDS Church, a local car dealership, and others because they supported the other side of the gay rights issue. They use words like bigot, intolerant, and un-excepting of their way of life against anyone that doesn’t believe in what they do. The gay rights movement wants rights and equality yet they deny the rights of thousands of US Citizens that exorcized their right to vote and speak their mind. What they are doing is no different than the unfair election practices of thugs and gangsters in this country and abroad. As a result of this so called tolerance when a US Citizen voices his opinion the wolves attack and st

Tolerate =/= Accept. Feel free to live how you want. But don't expect me to agree with your lifestyle. Don't expect me to support it. And don't expect me to stand by and idley watch while you whine and complain about how you're not getting special rights to live your elective lifestyle. If you don't like it, move to Massachusetts.
