SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Wanda Barzee pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping charge for trying to abduct Elizabeth Smart's cousin in 2002.

In 3rd District Court, Barzee's attorney concurred with recent findings in federal court over Barzee's competency to stand trial.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys also negotiated a change of plea to the conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping to "guilty and mentally ill" at the time of the attempted kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart's 18-year-old cousin Jessica Wright, yet competent to stand trial.

Court records show Brian David Mitchell and Barzee tried to break into the Wright home on July 24, 2002, 8 weeks after the Smart kidnapping.

In court, Barzee admitted she was still taking medication, including the antidepressant Lexapro and the sleep aid Ambien.

Barzee also said she believed the drugs were helping her, and that she understands plea deal and other court proceedings in her case.

The deal in the kidnapping conspiracy case automatically amends charges in the federal case against Barzee, who in November pleaded guilty to kidnapping Smart as part of a plea deal that clears the way for Barzee to testify against Mitchell, should his case go to trial.

Barzee will be sentenced for the Smart kidnapping on May 19, and will be sentenced for the conspiracy charge on May 21.

The judge could recommend 1-15 years in prison to be served concurrently with Smart case sentence.

Monday's ruling also stated that Barzee has right to withdraw her plea.
