Attic fans

During hot weather, the temperature in attics can reach 150 degrees. When the weather is cold, the difference between attic temperatures and the heated rooms below can cause condensation which lowers the effectiveness of your insulation and can shorten the life of your roof. A well-ventilated attic is the solution to both problems. While most attics have vents to permit air flow, an attic fan can be helpful in removing excess heat and humidity. If you're considering putting a fan in your attic, you have two options. One is a small fan that only affects the attic. This solves the problems of heat and moisture buildup, but doesn't affect the rest of your home. Your other option is a large whole-house fan that pulls cool air throughout your home and exhausts it through the roof. Using a whole-house fan can replace the need for air conditioning in all but the hottest weather, dramatically reducing energy costs.
