SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Soccer fans, the wait is over to see Real Salt Lake back in action. The team kicks of its first game of the season Saturday in Los Angeles. Although the game is on the road, you can watch 30 real games in HD, including this one, on ABC 4 and CW 30.
If you ask die hard soccer fans, it's been way too long before they could throw on some Real gear, and see the team take the field, but now even if the team gets on a plane and plays on the road, you don't have to miss a single kick.
Friday morning Real left the Salt Lake Airport ready for its first game against the L.A. Galaxy.
"We're pumped!" said Defender Chris Wingert.
"All the guys are extremely excited as I am, and (we have) a little bit nervous energy as well," said Real Head Coach Jason Kreis.
The team may be a bit amped after the Galaxy knocked Real out of last year's Western Conference Finals.
"It's a good opportunity to start off the season right," said Goal Keeper Nick Rimando.
If you couldn't join the team on the road, you can now watch this game and 29 other games this season in HD on ABC 4 or CW 30.
"We're excited for everybody to watch us," said Wingert.
"It's incredible, really really incredible. It's great they'll have the opportunity to watch the game, but watch it in high definition," said Kreis.
"A lot of teams in the league don't have that," said Rimando.
And fans are excited about the new TV deal too.
"That'll be really awesome!" said Nathan Anderson, South Jordan resident.
"I've only got four tickets, and there's seven in the family, so some of us are at home, it's great to know we can watch it on TV," said Jon Madsen, RSL fan.
Now if you're one of those fans who has to see the team in person, you won't have to wait long for them to get back from L.A, Real's first home game is just one week away.
The first game against the L.A. Galaxy will be broadcast Saturday on ABC 4. Coverage begins at 8:00 p.m.; the game starts at 8:30 p.m.
