SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Real Salt Lake has been the hottest team in Major League Soccer this season. RSL also has one of the hottest players in the league, at least according to Cosmopolitan.
Tony Beltran was recently singled out by the magazine as being one of the "hot soccer players we can't resist."
"I think he's gorgeous," said defender Nat Borchers. "If I was a girl, I'd date him."
As you can tell, his teammates have given Beltran all kinds of grief.
"When it came out, I didn't want to go to practice the next day," Beltran said.
"We printed it out and put it all over the lockerroom and all over the place," said goalkeeper Kyle Reynish.
"That they did," Beltran confirmed. "With some nice captions on there."
Nothing that could be repeated on camera, though. But there was also some jealousy amongst the team.
"I was really disappointed," said midfielder Sebastian Velasquez. "I look at this and I think I should have gotten it. If he [made it], then I should be top-3!"
The ironic thing about the mention in the magazine is that Beltran isn't one for vanity.
"It's not Tony's thing to try to bring a lot of attention to himself," said defender Chris Wingert. "But he deserves it by doing the right things not only on the field, but I guess off the field as well."
Beltran is currently single, but that may change.
"Things have been pretty quiet," he said. "Apparently not everybody agrees with Cosmo."
Well, at least one of his teammates agrees.
"Tony Beltran," said Borchers. "He's half Hispanic, half Italian, and all man."
