PROVO (ABC 4 Sports) - With one of the best records in women's college basketball, you would think BYU's roster would be filled with seasoned vets like juniors and seniors...but it's not.
"I keep hearing everyone say my team's young and like you said we do have four upperclassmen," said head coach Jeff Judkins.
And three of those upperclassmen start, which helps. Behind the three seniors and one junior you'll find nine freshmen and four sophomores. And while the team's success is surprising to some, others expected this.
"I actually did expect it," said freshman point guard and former Springville star Lexi Eaton. "They were successful the year before and the seniors came back with even more focus."
"They're athletic," added Judkins. "They're all tough. They're all coachable and they're all aggressive which to me is a win-win situation.
The Cougars will be put to the test Thursday night in Provo when they host No. 19 Gonzaga in a battle for first place in the West Coast Conference.
"We've talked about it for awhile," said sophomore guard and former Wasatch High star Kim Parker. "They've won the conference the past four years."
"We're going to come out gunning and we're going to play how we know how to play," Eaton added. "We're confident we can beat them."
