SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Former Utah Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan has pulled his name out of consideration for the Charlotte Bobcats coaching job, according to a report in Sports Illustrated.
"I took myself out today," Sloan told the magazine. "I don't want to comment on it because it's never profitable for anybody. It just makes it sound like you're making a statement about someone. But they were wonderful and there were no problems. I just took myself out."
Sloan, who met with Charlotte owner Michael Jordan on May 25th, was reportedly one of three finalists for the job, along with Pacers assistant Brian Shaw and Lakers assistant Quin Snyder.
Sloan, 70, abruptly resigned from the Jazz in February, 2011 after a heated dispute with point guard Deron Williams. Sloan coached 23 seasons in Utah and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
He is third on the all-time coaching wins list with 1,221.
