SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Mo Williams may be headed back to the Utah Jazz.
According to a
report on ESPN.com, the Jazz have emerged as possible trade partners in a three-team deal that would send Williams to Utah from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for the Jazz trade exception that was acquired in the Mehmet Okur deal.
Williams, who can play both point and shooting guard, was originally drafted by the Jazz in 2003. He played just one season in Utah before being released and signed by Milwaukee. He also played for Cleveland, where he became an all-star in 2009. For his career, Williams averages 13.8 points and 4.9 assists per game.
The deal is continent on Williams opting into his $8.5 million player option for next season by Saturday's deadline. Williams can become an unrestricted free agent if he opts out of his contract. There is no word on whether the Jazz will be willing to sign Williams to a longer term deal.
In the proposed three-team trade, the Dallas Mavericks would trade Lamar Odom to the Clippers, the Jazz would get Williams, while the Mavericks be able to unload Odom's salary. The Jazz would be able to absorb Williams' $8.5 million salary without sending a player back to Dallas because of their trade exception they obtained when they sent Okur to New Jersey in December.
