FORT MYERS, Fla. (ABC 4 Sports) - After 11 straight wins to open the season, Lone Peak, ranked #1 in the nation by MaxPreps.com, loses to Montverde Academy (FL), 66-45 in the championship game of the prestigious City of Palms Classic.
T.J. Haws scored 21 points to lead the Knights, while Connor Toolson poured in 11, but it wasn't enough against Montverde, the #1-ranked team according to ESPN.
Nick Emery had 8 points, while Eric Mika scored 5 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. The Knights struggled offensively as a team, shooting just 33 percent from the field.
The Eagles raced out to a 10-point lead after the first quarter and led by 17 points at the half. The Knights closed the gap to 11 going into the 4th quarter, but playing its fourth game in four nights, the Knights ran out of gas.
It was still a very successful tournament for Lone Peak, which ended #3 Chester's (PA) 61-game winning streak on Thursday, and knocked off #5 Southwind (TN) Friday.
Lone Peak was the first high school team from Utah ever to be ranked #1 in the country in any sport, but the Knights will most likely fall from the top spot after Saturday's loss.
