SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - So many professional athletes are on Twitter these days. The social media phenomenon is in full force on the Utah Jazz. But there were some "old school" holdouts on the team. Until now.
Paul Millsap has joined the Twittersphere.
"I still don't know how to work the thing," Millsap said with laugh. "I'm still trying to figure it out."
Injured Jazz point guard Mo Williams is the team's king of Twitter. He has over 143,000 followers, so he felt it his responsibility to introduce Millsap to the Twitter world.
"I'm so proud to introduce someone that you may know all so well," Williams said in an impromptu press conference after Utah's win over New Orleans Wednesday night. "He wears number 24. We want to welcome him to Twitter. So, go on Twitter and follow Paul Millap underscore 24!"
People have listened to Williams. In his first 24 hours on Twitter, Millsap has already accumulated over 3,200 followers. He had plenty to tweet about last night after scoring 25 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Williams said Millsap will eventually be the best tweeter on the team, but Millsap may not be ready to live up to the hype just yet.
"I guess I have no choice," Millsap said about accepting Williams' challenge. "He kind of threw me under the bus."
Millsap's first ever tweet was a picture of himself and Marvin Williams after Wednesday's game.
So now every Jazz player is on Twitter with the exception of Williams and Al Jefferson, who Millsap says he will try to convince to hop aboard the Twitter bandwagon.
"Never," Jefferson said. "That will never happen. I'm surprised he's on it. How do you all know about that anyway?"
When told we were the media, Jefferson replied, "that's another reason why I'll never get on Twitter."
