We tend to think of successful people as those who make a lot of money or just bought that new car, but according to Olympic gold medalist Nikki Stone, success is a much different story.
In her new book that came out only recently, When Turtles Fly, she tells the story of many people and their success stories.
One story in particular that has inspired Nikki is the story of a little boy right here is Utah that was born with no limbs. Gabe Adams is "a phenomenon," according to Stone. She says he can climb the stairs using nothing but his head, hold a pencil between his neck and head. "He's not afraid of failing."
This story inspired Stone to ask to ask in her book and in her motivational speaking, "If you could not fail, what would you try in life? Successful people take the blame on themselves. They can be the victim or the victor."
Stone says to think to yourself how a risk or decision will affect them a week or a month from now. "If I didn't take this risk, how will that affect me a week from now? It might seem embarrassing in the moment or five minutes later, but will it really change life?
In training athletes and preparing them for the Olympic Games, Nikki tells them to take specific action steps in order to accomplish these goals. "Its about taking those calculated risks."
