While most of the world would say that spring arrives this Saturday, meteorologists around the world would say that spring has been here for 20 days by the time the Vernal Equinox happens this year.
Meteorologically and climatologically speaking, spring starts on March 1st. Astronomically speaking, spring arrives on the Vernal Equinox, March 20th this year. The spring months are March, April, and May.
So what are the months that consist of summer? June, July, and August make up the meteorological summer. September, October, and November make up the fall months and December, January, and February are considered winter months.
Spring is the wettest season for Salt Lake City. The months of March, April, and June have a normal precipitation value of 6.02”
Fall comes in next with 4.30” of precipitation falling normally, then winter with 3.93”, and lastly summer with 2.25”
Normal average temperatures for Utah show that we clearly do have 4 distinct seasons. Winter’s normal average temperature is 31.3° F, spring’s is 50.6° F, summer’s is 73.0° F, and fall’s is 52.4° F.
Which season is king of the snowfall? You guessed it. Winter averages 36.9” of snow while spring averages 15.6”, and fall averages 10.2”.
