SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Several areas of the state may be prone to patches of black ice Tuesday morning due to overnight snow and falling temperatures.
Black ice is formed when temperatures fall below freezing, turning water into slick, invisible pieces of ice. Just days ago, residents captured home video of cars slipping and sliding on black ice in Bountiful.
"I think people don't realize that any car can spin out of control, even those with four wheel drive big cars," Salt Lake area driver Chelsa Brockman said,
Several drivers said they had already hit patches of black ice Monday morning.
"It can be very scary," Dustin Plott said. "You just feel helpless when you hit it. It's a terrifying feeling."
The Utah Department of Transportation said crews will continue to maintain roads with salt and brine solution throughout the week.
"It is definitely dangerous," Brockman added. "People just need to take their time and not be in a hurry.
