RICHFIELD, Utah (AP) - Officials are identifying a 34-year-old snowmobiler from Richfield who died in an avalanche near central Utah's Fish Lake.

The Sevier County Sheriff says Brady Davis was with three other snowmobilers when slab avalanche began about 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Forecaster Brett Kobernik of the Utah Avalanche Center says Davis was caught in the slide and buried about 4 feet deep.

Davis was dead by the time his companions located him with the help of an avalanche transceiver, which transmits a radio signal to help find people buried under snow.

Kobernik says Utah has an unusually unstable snowpack this year. The death marks the third avalanche fatality in Utah this winter.
