The first snow of the year accumulated up to 9" at Alta, 8.5" at Cottonwood Heights, and 4" in downtown Salt Lake. Another weaker storm is on the way for Sunday, but then high pressure will move in for the majority of the week. A lake effect band enhanced the snow east of the Great Salt Lake late Saturday morning into the afternoon. Tonight, skies will be mostly cloudy as the next system approaches the area. Lows will be in the 20s, with the colder mountain and desert locations dropping into the 10s and 0s. Some black ice could form as melting snow and running water refreezes. Sunday will be mostly cloudy, with a little more sunshine farther east and south. Light snow showers will develop by the afternoon, with some light rain showers in the lower elevations of southern Utah. The snow won't accumulate as much, but there still could be a coating up to an inch or two in the lower elevations. the mountains could see up to 6". This weak system will depart on Monday, with clearing late. High pressure will build in on Tuesday with more sun. inversions will develop Tue, Wed, and Thur. Highs will be in the 40s, with lows generally in the 20s. Friday will warm up into the 50s, possibly to around 60. The next large storm looks to hit next weekend, just in time for the first ski areas to open.
