Marti Skold: Bee Stings, Bites and Sunburns
|
The sizzling summer sun will bring plenty of heat to our state today. A high of 95 degrees is not only hot, it can be dangerous. This is the time of year when kids play outside but forget to drink enough, so they can become dehydrated. Make sure they get breaks from the heat and that they get enough to drink throughout the day. Beside the heat there are other things we need to watch out for when it comes to summer safety. Those bug bites and sunburns can be irritating and also dangerous. There are a number of home remedies that have been tried and true for years. Aloe vera, baking soda, yogurt and vinegar are all items that have been used for sunburns. (Not together!) And when it comes to bee stings, baking soda and vinegar are also known to ease the pain and itch. Meat tenderizer is also a simple home remedy to ease a sting. Also, one of the best ideas to get a splinter out is to put school or wood glue on the skin over the splinter. Let the glue dry, and then peel off, and the splinter will come out when the glue comes off, you can also use tape. If you have any home remedies add them in the comment section. Stay cool!
