The past week I've been filling in on the night shift which is a complete turn of the clock for my system.  It got me wondering if a morning person can become a night owl, or is it something more that rules the way our body clock works.  There is a book called Body Clock A Guide to Better Health that talks about larks which are morning people and night owls that are people who work well and get more done at night.  In fact, in the book, they talk about how being a morning person or a night owl is in our genes and is something that has been proven in animal studies.
I'm not sure if a morning song bird can transition into a night owl, or if it's just something you adapt to.  I know that when I do the mornings, I find myself looking at the alarm clock all night long to make sure that I am getting up on time at 2 AM and I think that I get a deeper sound sleep on the nights that the alarm clock is not set.  Working both shifts over the past few years has given me the highest respect for shift workers who are the morning song birds or larks.
So, I'll do a few more nights this week filling in as a night owl and be back to my morning song bird routine, being a lark on Friday.
Whichever shift you work, or whatever type of personality you are, morning or night, I hope you have a great night.
