EDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Homeowners in Eden are busy pumping out flood water after a deluge of rain and snow drained into their homes.
The rain started on Friday morning and then turned to snow Saturday afternoon.
Several homes in Eden are affected by the flooding. Weber County crews say the flooding in January is unusual, but is a result of rain running off the hard, frozen ground. Instead of seeping into the topsoil, the water has nowhere to go, but into surrounding homes.
"It's been a nightmare," says homeowner Kevin Sharidan. Sharidan came home from work on Friday to find at least four feet of water flooding his basement. "It was like the Ogden River flowing down here," says Sharidan.
Weber County has brought in three dumptruck loads of sand, so far, for volunteers to help fill. Homeowners say they're done sandbagging for now, but will continue to pump water into nearby street drains and canals.
Residents are relieved the rain finally turned to snow, but they're worried about next week's warmer temperatures. "If we get more snow, and then that melts, we could see more water," says homeowner Stephen Noel.
At least an inch of rain and snow have fallen in Eden and the Ogden area over the last 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service.
