SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The inversion is creating poor air quality along the Wasatch Front and it's predicted to stick around for the next several days.
The Department of Environmental Quality labeled Sunday as a yellow air alert day, which is considered part of the moderate category. Both Davis and Salt Lake Counties are predicted to be in the red category by Tuesday. The red category is considered very unhealthy. Weber and Utah Counties will also continue to worsen as the week goes by.
Doctors say the gunk in the air is very unhealthy for sensitive groups such as people with respiratory problems, the elderly, and children.
Some people say even their pets struggle with the poor air quality. "My dog will actually rub her eyes and itch her back, so I think it does affect animals too," says Murray resident Jeanette Bonnell.
On red alert days wood burning is not recommended and people are urged to drive less. Forecasters say relief will only come in the form of a storm. Snow is expected on Thursday, but until then they say the haze will stick around.
