SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - With no police officers stationed around the clockor metal detectors installed, it is fairly easy for someone with bad intentions to take a gun inside a movie theater.

According to Salt Lake Police, a man walked into the Movies 10 in Sugarhouse and robbed the concession stand. The man allegedly ordered a bag of popcorn, demanded cash then flashed a gun to the clerk.

Movie theaters offer a place for people to escape reality, but some said they can't help but worry about their safety.

"It's scary," Neesha Taylor, who lives in Sugarhouse, said. "You wouldn't think these things would happen in Utah."

Some Utahns are worried about theater safety.

"If anybody could just walk in with a gun that says a lot about security at movie theaters," Kelly Valdez said.

A security guard is on duty at the Sugarhouse shopping center and patrols around the entire block.

People said they are still concerned after the July 2012 massacre at a Century 16 in Colorado. A gunman killed 12 people and injured dozens more. Lawsuits are pending against Cinemark Theaters for allegedly not taking proper security measures.

"You don't want to live in a security state where there's a police cop on every corner," Ron Draughon Jr. said. "It costs a pretty penny to keep a security guard everywhere."

Despite the recent gun violence, several Utahns said weapons are not the problem.

"The gun is not the problem," Caryn Johnson said. "It's the person that is carrying the gun that has the problem."

One man agreed and said guns are good, but they end up in the wrong hands.

For all the talk about more guns and more security, I'll just stay home. This is ridiculous. What's next security in grocery stores?

Lots of people with good intentions carry their guns inside movie theaters in Salt Lake City or other Utah theaters. Concealed Firearm permit holders have done that for years to protect themselves from a possible situation like the one in Aurora, CO or as we've seen in churches where killers attacked expecting unarmed victims to be there for the killing. Gun Free zones are killing free zones for killers.
