Survey: Perceptions of Mormons mostly unchanged

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A new national survey shows that America's perception of the Mormon church changed very little despite the religion getting unprecedented attention this year.

A Pew Research Center poll found that eight in 10 people said they learned little or nothing about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the 2012 Presidential election.

But the study found that more Americans now use positive terms to describe Mormons than before, such as "good people," ''dedicated" and "hardworking."

The religion was thrust into the national spotlight with Republican Mitt Romney being the first Mormon nominated for President. The church also launched a national advertising campaign this year featuring stories of church members in an effort to improve perceptions.

The Pew survey was done in early December talking with 1,500 adults.
