HARRISVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A north Weber County resident has created quite a stir with his representation of Christmas decorations on Larsen Lane.
The display shows illuminated deer in a compromising position. Another deer is hung upside down from a tree with red lights hanging down, which represent blood from being gutted, according to owner Isaac Oberg.
“I just wanted to do something different,” Oberg said.
However, Harrisville city officials said a handful of residents have complained about the decorations being offensive.
Neighbor Mary Ann Hickson said to understand the decorations, you have to understand Oberg.
“He marches to the beat of his own drum,” Hickson said. “He does his own thing and if nobody likes it then that is their deal.”
Other neighbors said they are not insulted to look across the street.
“They are just lights,” David Willard, a neighbor, said. “We see it once in a while and it doesn’t bother me. I don’t pay much attention to it.”
City officials said they will not make Oberg remove the decorations from his yard.
Oberg welcomes the public to stop by his house if they are offended. He wants a chance to explain his Christmas style.
He plans to extend the Christmas show next year by adding more unusual decorations to the already unique display in his front yard.
“I see cars stopping by all the time and taking pictures,” Oberg said. “I hear more good about it than bad.”
