IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa City police officer helped a female motorist deliver a baby -- "right here, right now" -- after first stopping her husband for speeding.

Cedar Rapids station KCRG reports that Officer Kevin Wolfe pulled over the vehicle Sunday night.

In audio picked by a microphone on Wolfe, the man driving the SUV yells out as the officer approached: "Sir, we're delivering a baby right here, right now!"

The baby's head and arms were out by the time Officer Wolfe reached the passenger side of the SUV.

Wolfe helped the mother and her baby boy through the last stages of the delivery and wrapped the newborn in a blanket. Officer Wolfe then escorted the couple to nearby Mercy Hospital.

Police spokeswoman Vicki Lalla said Officer Wolfe did not record the couple's names because he decided not to ticket the driver.
