SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - David Archuleta made his television debut on Star Search in 2003 at age 12. The following year, he performed on ABC 4's “Good Things Utah". He then went on to compete on “American Idol” where he finished 2nd.

Now, ABC 4 has some big news for fans of the young singer.

Even though he's begun his LDS mission, we've learned he's cut a new album with a very well known musical producer.

The producer’s name is Kurt Bestor, another beloved Utah artist.

Bestor told ABC 4 that he’s been busy co-producing Archuleta’s newest album. "We were frantic to get it all done before he went on his LDS mission," Bestor said.

Archuleta is believed to have been assigned to a South American mission in Chile.

Bestor says the two worked together right up until the night before Archuleta left.

"I have to say I was a little hesitant to do it," Bestor admitted, "but now that I have had a chance to work with him for that intense three weeks. The kid's amazing."

Bestor says the result will be an 11 song CD to be released in June or July.

Bestor, a Grammy nominated musician, says it will contain amazing songs, ones that people will know and love.

"The kid is really kind of a phenom and I don't think people really realize it."

And while Bestor may not have meant to, he did let one the name of one Archuleta song slip out. "I just did a version of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'…Oops! That's on the new album, David Archuleta. Nobody knows that."

Now, to see our entire interview with Kurt Bestor - and the rest of his comments about David Archuleta - tune in to "On the Record."

It airs Sunday morning at 7:30 right here on ABC 4.

Could you please post the video of the show? David and Kurt have many fans outside of Utah who would be interested in this interview. Thanks so much.

"..but now that I have had a chance to work with him for that intense three weeks. The kid's amazing. The kid is really kind of a phenom and I don't think people really realize it." Truest words I've read recently about David and I love when they come from someone of Bestor's credibility and stature. Couldn't agree more. Mystery to me when "the world at large" seems to miss what's there, but I think it says more about our collective cultural sensibility than anything lacking in David. He'll continue to shine nonetheless and go just where that Voice is meant to take him. Thrilled about July music...just in time for my b-day! :)

This is wonderful news! I'm so excited for his new album. Forevermore has been on repeat on my ipod since I purchased it. Our (Filipino) composers were also amazed with David's gift of music. His covers far surpassed their expectations. Thanks for sharing. We are so missing BB D.

Thanks for the piece about Kurt and his mentions of David's US album!! I can't wait to hear it. David was very busy the whole 10 weeks before his mission creating new stuff to leave for his fans. David recorded an album of classic Philippines love songs called Forevermore - you can order the CD on WOWHD or Amazon and just today it became available on iTunes. David also was filmed as leading man in a 5-week daily Philippines miniseries Nandito Ako and we are watching for a release of subtitled DVD set of that (the two theme songs of the show are included on the Forevermore album). Follow David's twitter DavidArchie - while he's on his mission his manager Kari will post news and updates from David's emails there. #DA2014

I can't wait! I saw him sing a little bit of Bridge Over Troubled Waters and it was fantastic. And I loved the songs Kurt produced on David's Christmas album. I hope they also recorded Prayer of The Children. I've been waiting for a professional recording of that song since David's first Christmas tour.
