AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC 4 News) – The American Fork High School marching band took center stage Monday at the Rose Parade, performing in front of a national audience.
“It was an amazing experience,” band director John Miller said. “They said we walked by one million people.”
The parade route stretched seven miles long. It was an exhausting but exhilarating journey as 240 students held instruments for over two hours on foot.
Junior trumpet player Adam Townsend said he was nervous before hitting the pavement.
“It was a great experience all together,” Townsend said. “I will always remember that.”
American Fork was one of the few elite high school marching groups chosen from around the world to participate in the Rose Parade.
It took over a year to plan, fundraise and practice the routine, according to parade officials.
“It was an experience I will never forget,” trumpet player Abby Hasten said.
The group will return to Utah Tuesday.
“All I can say is that it was awesome,” Townsend added.
