A Herriman girl had the experience of a lifetime at this year’s Super Bowl. Not only did she get to go to the game, she got a personal invite from the NFL Commissioner, and sat right next to him as the Ravens took on the 49ers. ABC 4 Anchor Kim Fischer is the first reporter to sit and talk with 9 year-old Sam Gordon after her return from the big game.
Tickets to the super bowl? Check.
Picture on a Wheaties box? Yep.
A dress personally sent by Oscar De La Renta?
"It's not every day that you get a message from Oscar De La Renta saying hey, you can wear my dress on the red carpet," Sam said with a huge grin.
Not exactly the typical things a 9 year-old girl experiences, but Sam Gordon isn't the typical girl. Back in November, a video of Sam playing, and absolutely crushing the boys in her Herriman football league went viral.
"My dad posted the video and all this started to happen," Sam said.
What does she mean by all this? Sam was featured in a segment on Good Morning America, and had a guest appearance on the NFL honors show with Alec Baldwin and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Speaking of the commish did I mention he personally invited Sam to the Super Bowl?
"He asked, like, Sam have you ever been to the Super Bowl? And I said no. And he said would you like to? And I said yes!" Sam said.
So, how was the trip to New Orleans?
"It was great, it was like the best time ever," Sam said smiling.
Sam sat right next to the commissioner at the game, as a commercial of her aired in front of the entire nation. She also blogged about the whole experience on ESPN.com and got to walk the red carpet with some of the NFL's biggest names.
"This is the dress I was wearing and it was designed by Oscar De La Renta," Sam said, showing us her dress.
So, after a season this amazing, what does the 9 year-old hope for next times she hits the field?
"When I go to play football next year I’m hoping that I see a lot more girls playing," she said.
With more girls like Sam on the field, there may be no hope left for the boys.
Sam says she plans to play football for another year or two then she wants to switch to her real passion, soccer.
