SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A few months ago it appeared Mitt Romney’s religion was a big factor in the race for the White House. However, a new survey indicates most people don’t have a problem with Romney’s Mormon faith.
The Pew Research Center says in July 2011 only 48 percent of voters knew Romney was LDS or Mormon. Today that number is 60 percent.
In 2011, 41 percent of voters said they were comfortable with Romney’s religion. Today 61 percent of voters are comfortable with it. Kurt Proctor, who lives in Salt Lake City, says “I have no problem with religious beliefs. I believe in separation of church and state.” He goes on to say "I think we share a moral standard that makes us American and people of all faiths and walks of life can share values that bring us together."
That is what the new survey seems to say as well. In fact, when you combine those who are comfortable and OK with Romney’s Mormon faith it is about 80 percent. Still, there are those who say religion is still a factor in the race. Daisy Gale told ABC 4 News "I don't want to ever see an LDS president."
