SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A former patient of Dr. Joseph Berg claims she nearly died because of his bedside manner.

Last summer, Becky Casey went to his medical clinic for a tummy tuck and liposuction.”

“He showed up a few hours late and we went in and did it,” Casey says. “And the next thing I knew I was home,"

But the next day at home she was very sick.

“It's when I start vomiting and I continued vomiting and it went downhill from there,” she says.

She called Dr. Berg’s office.

"And called and called and never heard back from him," she says.

For eleven days, Casey suffered at home.

"I finally told my husband to call 911,” Casey recalls. “I told him I felt like I was dying."

An ambulance took her to the Davis Medical Center and then was rushed to a Salt Lake hospital.

“My husband was told that I wasn't going to make it,” she says. "I had a blood clot from my ankle all the way to my heart. I had three heart attacks. I had heart failure and kidney failure.

With proper treatment she survived, but no thanks to Dr. Berg. She has now filed a malpractice lawsuit against Berg.

Last year, the state licensing division yanked his license after numerous complaints.

Records showed he used illegal prescription drugs while at work.

In addition, Berg pleaded guilty to kidnapping his girlfriend and locking her in a closet.

And Monday she learned he and his girlfriend were found dead at their Orem home.

“I saw it on the news and I about had a heart attack watching it,” she says.

Despite Berg's exit, Casey says she's a victim of his bad habits.

“(I’m) sick to my stomach,” Casey says. My kids could have lost their mom because of it.”

We didn't, curious as to why you think this? My wife's lawsuit was started shortly after she was released from the hospital last September. It was started before he was even arrested for kidnapping and drug charges. She is just in the spotlight now because of how this has all developed.
