SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say an 81-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a van on a Salt Lake City street.

Salt Lake City police Lt. Scott White says the woman had apparently parked her car and was crossing toward a UTA bus about 7 a.m. Tuesday when she was hit on the 1000 block of North Catherine Street.

Bystanders attempted CPR, but the woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

White says it appears the woman had been trying to bring something to another person on or near the bus. Witnesses say she was not in a crosswalk, and the van driver told police he didn't see her.

The woman's name has not yet been released.
