Per the Utah Department of Public Safety: "The concealed firearm permit allows an individual to carry a firearm fully loaded and concealed. The permit also allows an individual to carry a firearm into public schools. Permit holders can not carry a firearm into federal or state restricted areas i.e. any airport secured area, federal facilities, courts, correctional & mental health facilities, law enforcement secured areas, a house of worship or private residence where notice given and/or posted, any secured area in which firearms are prohibited and notice posted, or otherwise prohibited by state of federal law." http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/FAQ.html. Yes, a sign in and of itself at a business does not have the "force of law" but are the rules for that business which can be enforced and that does have the force of law. With that in mind, what we said was correct. We will add clarification to the story.

ABC4, you really should take your own advice: talk to an expert before reporting such drivel. You say that theaters are "secure areas"? They are not. Secure areas are defined in Utah's law, under section 76-8-311.1(2), with this little nugget: "(ii) A "secure area" may not include any area normally accessible to the public." ... that was oops number 1 for you. Second, you say that UTA only allows "guns onto TRAX trains and buses for concealed weapons carriers...". This is only partially correct. The firearm does NOT need to be concealed, but the carrier must have a concealed firearms permit to carry on a bus or TRAX. Third, you say "Utah law allows any private home or business the option of banning guns." This is only partially correct as well. A business can chose to put up a "no guns" sign, which carries no weight of law. The business can chose to not provide "service" to anyone they choose (such as someone carrying a firearm), and they can also ask the carrier to leave. Should the carrier refuse, they might be charged with trespassing. However, the "no guns" law itself has no force of law behind them. Private residences, however, DO have the force of law behind being able to "ban guns". If a someone carries a firearm in to a home that has notified the individual of the ban on firearms, then it is an "infraction" level offense (ie, a traffic ticket), as defined by 76-10-530(6). Please, for God's sake: do just a little bit of research before you spout off inaccuracies, because you only make yourselves look foolish. Should you wish to do so, you're welcome to hire me as your "expert." I'll work cheap.

Every thing in this article is false. Just horrible reporting. The only place in Utah that you can not carry regardless of permit is a court house, fed building, airport, lds church, private residence if not wanted by owner. Everywhere else that post a no weapons sign can only make you leave if caught carrying.
