NASHVILLE, Tenn. (ABC 4 News) - The music, the red carpet, and the big winners of the 2011 Country Music Awards, you saw it all, but what you didn't see is what happened when the stars went back stage, until now.
You probably saw the moment Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter performed their new song “You and Tequila”. It won Music Video of the Year, but you didn’t see their interview of how Kenny got Grace to smile so big, when you see the pair walking up the hill.
“He made me blush,” said Potter.
“We caught that moment in the video when I was talking about a certain someone and a certain situation,” said Chesney.
“And a certain thing she liked to do,” said Potter.
On stage Lionel Richie sang a series of his classics coming out soon in his new country duet album. Backstage, he explained his inspiration for it.
“Every country act down here knows the lyrics better than I do and so I decided let’s change this thing around a little bit, let’s do a duet album and give everyone a chance to give their interpretation of the songs are all about,” said Richie.
When Sugarland won Vocal Duo of the Year they simply thanked their fans, but it was only backstage did they tell why.
“We’re grateful that’s how I feel,” said Jennifer Nettles.
“Yah you can’t forget that the fans can save your life,” said Kristian Bush.
But the moment everyone was waiting for was Entertainer of the Year.
“Taylor Swift!” shouted presenter Reba McEntire.
Swift thanked a long list of fellow artists who performed along with her, and needed a write them on her hand to remember them all.
“Thank you for coming out and playing for my fans. I’m so happy we have so many to play for this year. You have made my year, thank you so much!” said Swift.
Although Swift won the most coveted prize, a lot of people will be talking about The Band Perry. They won three awards, two as a band for New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year, and Kimberly Perry won for Single of the Year.
