WEST VALLEY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - It happened in a flash. The fire at 4536 S. 4920 W. started in the garage around 10 o’clock Tuesday night, minutes later it was in the house.

They thought they had enough time to get everyone out, but when Aimee Davis turned around she was greeted by smoke and flames and it was too late. “I got three steps down and I hit a pitch black wall of black, black some and flames,” recalls Davis.

She was inside the home when the fire started. Her fiancé Chad Fowlks was in the garage. He was working on a show car, making some modifications, and when he lowered the car down something sparked. Fowlks tried to put out the flames with his hose, but when he found that it was frozen ran into the house to get everyone out. His two daughters and son made it thanks to Aimee’s help, but for Aimee it was too late.

Davis says, "I've got my kids screaming for me. I can hear my fiancé screaming, ‘my fiancé’s in there.’”

Fowlks threw some rocks through the window to get Aimee some air. She was close to losing consciousness and considering jumping out the window when the West Valley Fire Department arrived. Firefighters rescued her out of the second story window. She suffered a cut to her wrist trying to break the glass to get out as well as carbon monoxide poisoning, but she says she would do it all over again to make sure everyone got out alive.

“I would do it again,” said Davis. “I would lay down my life for any of them. They’re my life.”

Now that Aimee is out of the hospital the clean up process begins, it means trying to salvage anything they can

"The loss is hard,” said Fowlks. “I don't like thinking about it because it took forever to get where we were."

The Fowlks are staying at a hotel for the next couple of nights thanks to the Red Cross after that they don't know. An account is expected to be set up in their name at the First Utah Bank in West Valley.
