ANTELOPE ISLAND, Utah (AP) - Twenty years after they were killed in a helicopter crash near Antelope Island, 12 American service members were remembered at a memorial service.
Family, friends and veterans gathered Saturday afternoon on the Great Salt Lake island to rededicate a memorial in their honor.
On Oct. 29, 1992, five Army Rangers and seven Air Force Special Operations airmen died when their Air Force MH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crashed off the northern tip of Antelope Island while on a training mission. Only the pilot survived.
A 7-foot granite monument on the island, which displays their names and photos, was first dedicated in 1994.
Organizers say eight of the 12 families of the fallen service members came from across the nation to attend Saturday's service.
