SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A Rose Park man tells ABC 4 he couldn’t fight off two Pitbulls who attacked his tiny Shitzu Thursday afternoon.
Goran Dukanovic claims his little Shitzu is simply trying to stay alive.
“He looked dead, and I was screaming,” said Goran Dukanovic, victim of Pitbull attack.
Dukanovic said Thursday two Pitbulls attacked him and his dog, Gizmo, near Riverside Park off of 14th W. 7th N. in Salt Lake City.
“They looked like they were charging us. I immediately lifted my dog above my head, but that wasn’t enough they just jumped on me, and they got him by the neck,” said Dukanovic.
Dukanovic said the Pitbulls tried to kill his Shitzu. If you look at video of Gizmo, you can see how swollen Gizmo’s neck is where the Pitbulls bite him. Dukanovic tried to fight the dogs off and when he did, the Pitbulls bite his hands, and clawed his neck. He had to be treated at St. Mark’s Hospital; his dog is an ICU, now he wants someone to pay.
“I know they can be nice puppies, I love all animals. I think the owner should be responsible,” he said.
At least one of the dogs, are now being held at the Salt Lake County Animal Shelter. The Pitbulls owner, who didn’t want to be shown on camera, said she’s not responsible.
“I think my neighbors were the ones that let my dogs out. There’s still a padlock on my fence and there’s no way they would’ve been able to push a gate open,” said Chandra, Pitbull owner.
Regardless who let the dogs loose, it doesn’t change Gizmo’s injuries.
ABC 4 is told Gizmo is slowly recovering. Doctors tell his owner he now has an 80% of surviving.
