CHARLOTTE (ABC 4 News) - At the historic Duke Mansion in Charlotte, a reception was held to welcome Utah Democrats and delegations from other states.

So, we thought it would be interesting to wear a Mitt Romney T-shirt to the event.

Now, the Democrats wouldn't let me in the party but I was able to stand outside and help greet the arriving guests.

Somewhat to our astonishment, almost all the delegates walked by me and my Romney shirt without even noticing it

That is except for one woman who - even more surprisingly - thought it was great.

So, there I stood, as the late afternoon turned into early evening.

It wasn't until the Utah delegation was leaving, that someone finally noticed what I was wearing.

In fact, delegate Jim Gonzales spotted it from about 25 yards away.

Here was our exchange as he passed by:

ABC 4: "How was the party?"

Jim Gonzales: "Very lovely."

ABC 4: "We weren't allowed in."

Gonzales: "No, I don't imagine you were dressed like that."

This is one of those Vanocur stories where you might want to watch the video!

I know it was just a silly little stunt to try to entertain and delight your morning show audience, but even so I think it takes a certain lapse of journalistic integrity to deliberately set out to get a rise out of people when you're supposedly on the scene as a professional representative of the press. Your job ought to be to provide unbiased documentation, not to stage some kind of artificial event by trying to provoke reactions to your antics. After seeing this, I would have to say Mr. Vanocur and his production team would do well to take a remedial course on Ethics in Journalism. Even when you're only doing fluff instead of hard news, there are still certain things that should be avoided if you want to maintain your credibility.

Based on the comments I would say people need to get over themselves. Its a T-Shirt. If this is the attitude presented by Democrats I can say I am proud to be a republican. Just for clarification if someone had the guts to wear a Obama T-shirt to the republican convention, I would not get this offended. You people are ridiculous.

Just stupid, Chris, stupid. You didn't get acknowledged because you looked like a moron in a Tshirt. This is the best Utah can send to Charlotte. Three fat people and a moron reporter in a Tshirt and cheap athletic shoes? How embarrassing for Utah.

Mr. Vanocur continues to display his lack of class! Send someone else to the Democratic National Convention! I am embarrassed AGAIN!

Very inappropriate behaviour. He should be reprimanded for this stunt instead of having it reported on the news. I agree with the other post, tired of the bias based reporting. I would expect something like this from a college age protestor, not a grown adult newsperson. Shame on ABC4.

This is completely inappropriate. News reporters are supposed to be unbiased. We should never know whom they're rooting for. I have watched your station for a lot of years, but no more. I'm so sick of your obvious bias towards Mitt Romney. I am appalled and have never seen anything like it. How do you get a way with it? Not everybody in Utah is Republican or Mormon. Not all Mormons are Republican. How come you fire so many great reporters (Barbara Smith, Robert Maxwell, John Dupre) and that clown remains? He is an embarrassment.
