Valentine in a Can
by: Shyloh Belnap

Oh No! It is Valentines Day and you forgot to give a Valentine to the one you love! You can make this darling valentine with things you have inside your house!

Supplies needed:
  • 1 sheet of scrapbook paper
  • 1 Can
  • Assorted ribbons (optional)
  • 1/2 inch circle punch (optional)

1. Remove top from the can using a can opener that cuts the rim from the top. (I used a Pampered Chef can opener) Rinse and dry can. Remove labels.
2. Cut the scrapbook paper to be the size of the can. (For the Campbell's can, I cut the paper to be 3 3/4 inches tall).
3. Tape to the can and then wrap around can.
4. Cut a circle for the top of the can. I used a Cricut cutting machine. You can measure the circle from side to side and that is the width of the circle you will want to cut on your machine. Or, you can trace the lid! The Campbell's soup can circle was 2 1/2 inches.
5. Use the 1/2 inch circle punch to punch a hole in the bottom of your circle. This will make it easier to get the circle around the pull tab on the lid. If you don't have a circle punch, you can just cut with your scissors!
6. Adhere circle to top of the can.
7. Write a "Pull Here" tag and adhere to the pull tab on the lid with ribbons. You can add more ribbons for more flare if you would like! I added some pom poms and ric arc to my cans for some fun!

The most important part of all is to fill your can with favorite memories or thoughts for your loved one. You will want to add candy for some fun to! Glue the top back on with a very good adhesive. I used e6000. Your Valentine will love the surprise inside when they re-open this darling little can!

I did this for Christmas and used the E6000 and the candy, even though it was all wrapped candy, tasted like the glue. I decided next time I'd use my glue gun. I felt terrible after all that work the candy had to be thrown away.
