SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The day that's been called the "Mayan Apocalypse" is here, and so far the world has not come to an end. People in Utah have mixed reaction.
If an ancient Mayan calendar is correct the world will end December 21st. Hollywood thinks it'll look like movie “2012”. And just like the film got mixed reviews, the reality of our impending doom is too.
"Do you really think the end of the world is coming tomorrow?” asked Reporter Brian Carlson.
“No," said Shawn Stewart, City Creek visitor.
"Yah, no I don't believe it," said Badee Amshoteri, City Creek visitor.
"Are you ready to meet your maker?" Carlson asked.
“I hope so,” said Angela Bennion, City Creek visitor.
Not everyone is. A company making a series of backyard bunkers for $100,000 a piece are selling fast.
"Last year it was like one a month, since December it went to one a day," said a representative from the company.
NASA received so many panicked calls about the Mayan prophecy they put out a video just to reassure people.
"It will be a day just like any other," said a NASA representative.
But just in case NASA is wrong, people Carlson talked to Thursday night are taking advantage of the moment.
“Anything you want to get off your chest?” asked Carlson.
“No there really isn't,” said Joshua Tanner, City Creek visitor.
"I really did steal my mom's car when I was 16 years old,” said Stewart.
“I'm glad she knows that now," said Carlson
"We supposedly have 6 hours left to live, what are you going to do?” Carlson asked.
“I'll probably sleep," said Robert Eyre, City Creek visitor.
"Looking at the lights with my friends, doing some last minute shopping,” said Bennion.
“For who?” Carlson asked.
“I guess it doesn't really matter," Bennion said.
According to several websites, the official time for the end of the world is 4:11 a.m. Dec. 21st.
