SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Thousands of Utah workers are braving the cold temperatures to earn a paycheck.

ABC 4 caught up with a construction crew working to build 120,000 square foot six floor parking garage near the University of Utah Hospital.

We found the crew during its sixth hour on the job.

“Let me shake your hand here. You’ve got a warm hand. Fleece lined gloves,” said Jacobsen Construction Worker Treini Smith.

The workers didn’t mutter one complaint as it continued to pour and lay concrete. It appears the men and women are used to working in freezing temperatures.

“It looks like you’re nice and warm, but do you ever get cold? Yeah you get cold. Usually it’s the finger tips, the finger tips and maybe the toes,” said Jacobsen Construction Worker, Darin Argyle.

Smith says working in these temperatures is toasty compared to a job he worked in Wyoming where the mercury dropped to 40 below zero.

“It was frigid. I men there is no comparison when it’s that cold,” Smith said.

Jacobson Construction is pushing forward in the cold weather because the job is worth about $100 million and time is money.

“Is there any positive to working in the cold?” asked ABC 4’s Noah Bond. Argyle responded, “Yeah you get to layer up. In the summer time they don’t let us take our clothes off.”

If you think the Wasatch Front construction workers are facing cold weather, why don't you come out to Jensen, Utah where it stayed below zero all day and workers in the construction industry had to bear it all day without complaints. If you want to see actual cold, come to Vernal or Jensen, Utah. Otherwise you have no room to complain!
