Not surprised in the least. And for all the people that say they are shocked and surprised are most likely white. There is no way you can be any other color in Utah and not notice it unless your're in deep denial. Even if they don't say anything to you, you can see it in the hateful look that they give you. Never in my life have I seen a small child give me a look like that except in Utah. The part that makes me sick is that they pretend to be such good, loving, accepting people and it makes me maddest of all when I hear them trying to convert non-white people. I wish I could go to all those countries and tell them what those people trying to convert them really are like. That if they were in Utah and weren't trying to get something from you, they would treat you like trash. I've lived in utah for over twenty years and I hate it and wish to never return. I've never seen such strange people in my life. No wonder the suicide rate is what it is. You can't be that mean and judgdmental at your core not suffer from it in one way or another. I hope they all drown in a sea of Prozac, bunch of hateful m%$#%^f*&^%$s. I hate telling people where I'm from because than they think I'm one of them, the ironic thing is most mormons would take one look at my darksome and frightsome brown face and probably faint. If the world is so simple and all white people are good and all black people are bad then how the hell do they explain Hitler? How do they explain that big bald f&^% that killed his beautiful pregnant wife, dumped her body in the trash then went on tv crying and carrying on and helping in her search? I'd really like to hear one of the pompous, cross-eyed, idiots explain it? Did God make a whoopsie? Kind of like that whoopsie he made in the 60's when he sent a divine revelation that blacks could hold the priesthood? Hmmm nothing oddly convenient about that huh? If I ever need good a good PR agent I'll be sure to go to them. I think that is what they really worship/good at.

ASIA FOR THE ASIANS, AFRICA FOR THE AFRICANS, WHITE COUNTRIES FOR EVERYBODY! Everybody says there is this RACE problem. Everybody says this RACE problem will be solved when the third world pours into EVERY white country and ONLY into white countries. The Netherlands and Belgium are just as crowded as Japan or Taiwan, but nobody says Japan or Taiwan will solve this RACE problem by bringing in millions of third worlders and quote assimilating unquote with them. Everybody says the final solution to this RACE problem is for EVERY white country and ONLY white countries to “assimilate,” i.e., intermarry, with all those non-whites. What if I said there was this RACE problem and this RACE problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of non-blacks were brought into EVERY black country and ONLY into black countries? How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a RACE problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BLACK problem? And how long would it take any sane black man to notice this and what kind of psycho black man wouldn’t object to this? But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the white race, Liberals and respectable conservatives agree that I am a naziwhowantstokillsixmillionjews. They say they are anti-racist. What they are is anti-white. Anti-racist is a code word for anti-white.

THANK YOU UTAH FOR PROVING ME ACCURATE!!!!! I'M SO PROUD! Below is a comment I posted in response to the KUTV piece on Racist Letter posted on neighbor's doors in a Utah city regarding the moving in of a Black family. My comment fits this piece, as well. I have only one other comment to add: I firmly believe it is because Utah is dead last in Public Education spending (hit this link for verification: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/backgrounders/school_funding.html that racism is alive and well. When your children are left semi-literate upon graduating from PUBLIC EDUCATION who can expect them to be racially sensitive? If your children can't read/write well enough to become teachers, and some of those not quite literate become teachers any-old-way, what can you expect? When children are not taught that all races contributed to making this country great, and parents reinforce this ignorance in their child's home, what do you get? U-T-A-H!!! 1NOV2012: "OH PLEASE!!! Utah isn't called the "MISSIPPII OF THE WEST" only because it spends less than the other US states spend on education. RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN UTAH AND YOU ONLY NEED TO BE A PERSON OF COLOR TO KNOW IT! Over the past 30 plus years I've lived in Utah I'm no longer shocked by the many incidents of racism, homophobia, the high rate of domestic violence, including murder of women by spouses, and the high rate of incest; and there's the inbreeding... As recent as July of this year I heard a white person use the term "colored" when speaking of a Black American. COLORED!! I've heard it before over the many years I've lived in Utah. Utah continues to lag many years behind the other US states, with the exception of the deep Southern States when it comes to issues of race. The fact that some white folk in Utah seem shocked and amazed racism exists in this state is testament to some DEEP DENIAL!"

This doesn't surprise me at all. Brigham Young was in charge of the settlement of Utah, and he was an energetic racist. The Journal of Discourses is full of racist language. Utah was also sympathetic to slavery. There are records of tithing being paid with slaves, and records of racist language being used over the pulpit. Shortly before my own father-in-law died in the early 70s, he was serving in the stake presidency and used the N-word from the pulpit in a stake priesthood conference, getting a lot of laughter for doing it. I went to BYU in 1967 and lived with three racist roommates and encountered a lot of casual racism at the university. After all, when the regional dominant religion practices exclusion based on race and tells its members that black people are "cursed" and "represent Satan on the earth," certain mental plugs are pulled and racist language flows. Mormons will never be able to get beyond racism until they actually repudiate the old practice, which they've never done.

MooMe, I think this analysis is fair. They never said they were extrapolating to all racist tweets, they were only analyzing the ones related to the one event, Obama winning reelection. Neither the article nor the study claimed to be any bigger than that.

This is a perfect example of how today's journalism panders to the ignorant and irresponsibly aids in the promotion of intellectual retardation. The level of scrutiny prior to regurgitating nursery level analysis is dangerous and should be embarrassing. There are approximately 250 MILLION tweets per day. Over 7 days that equates to 1,750,000,000 (yes that’s BILLION) twitter posts. There are over 311 MILLION citizens in the U.S.A. The study used 395 (not 365) tweets in their analysis. Floatingsheep also included the following disclaimer: “Keep in mind we are measuring tweets rather than users and so one individual could be responsible for many tweets and in some cases (most notably in North Dakota, Utah and Minnesota) the number of hate tweets is small and the high LQ is driven by the relatively low number of overall tweets.” So if you take 395 tweets divided by 311 million you have a sample of approximately 0.0001% of the population, assuming the 395 tweets came from separate individuals. Congratulations on formulating a conclusion based upon the amount of data that rivals a Kindergarten science project. I bet all those sampled in Utah were LDS as well. Got you Utah!

Not surprised by this at all. Most LDS people I know do it when they are with a couple other people around, who also say things like that. If they think nobody will notice, they do it a lot. I can only imagine how much worse it would be here (maybe a few other states nearby) if Obama were Hispanic instead.

Sadly, this doesn't come as a surprise. I have been blasted at work for the last 4 years with the most angry, bigoted, juvenille, hate filled emails you can imagine. Not sure where they are all coming from but there seems to be a never ending supply. Come on Utahns - make me proud - GET OVER IT ALREADY! Can't we just all get along??
