Utah coping with freezing weather

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – Temperatures in the Salt Lake Valley have topped out t in the teens for the past three days.

“I try not to take a deep breath because it takes my breath away. It makes me cough,” said September Smith from Sandy.

The cold blast is changing lives and routines because of it’s immediate impact the moment Utahans step out the door.

“It feels like my whole face freezes up the instant I walk out the door,” said Cindy Olson from Layton.

“It feels like your getting a snowball thrown at your face,” said Tiffany McDevitt from Salt Lake City.

Most people are staying inside. Foot traffic in downtown Salt Lake City at Main Street and South Temple was significantly reduced Monday as people opted to drive instead of walk.

Others are venturing out to have fun in the cold weather, but ABC 4 only found five people sledding down Sugar House Park noon on Monday.

Many of the people who talked with ABC 4 say their coping by wearing layers.
