LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Utah State has scheduled a press conference Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. to officially announce the school will accept an invitation to join the Mountain West Conference beginning in 2013.
Utah State, which has spent the last seven years in the Western Athletic Conference, will make the jump along with San Jose State to the MWC.
The move would give the Mountain West Conference 10 football playing members for the 2013-14 season and nine for basketball, with UNLV, New Mexico, Nevada, Fresno State, Wyoming, Colorado State, Air Force, Utah State and San Jose State. Hawaii is a member just for football.
After all is said and done, the WAC could be left with just three football playing schools.
Utah State's football team is coming off its first bowl game appearance since 1997 and recently had three players selected in the NFL Draft.
The Mountain West Conference will be the most prestigious and highest profile conference Utah State has ever played in.
