MURRAY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – The outpouring of support for the Utah State Basketball player who stopped breathing Tuesday continues.
Students gathered at a campus table to sign cards for Danny Berger. They included messages of support and comfort.
Friends drove the nearly 800 cards to Berger at his Intermountain Medical Center hospital bed in Murray around 5:30 p.m. Thursday where he was upgraded to fair condition today.
One of his biggest fans and friends helped deliver the cards. He’s known as Wild Bill but his real name is Bill Sproat. He makes regular cameos on ESPN because he is a large man who dresses up in skimpy Cupid or Peter Pan costumes to cheer on his team.
The fans and players love his antics. Now, he is one of Berger’s biggest supporters as he recovers from his cardiac arrest.
News of Berger’s accident remains a topic of conversation around the Aggie Campus.
“To hear that he had been life flighted to Salt Lake it was like one of my own children,” said Nancy Vamkampen.
It's really hard on me and everybody else,” said Paige Neves who is also a Utah State athlete.
“Sending a card from me is like a way to show him that hey we're thinking of you we're hoping your doing OK,” said Neves.
